San Pedro del Pinatar
San Pedro del Pinatar is a very popular Spanish fishing town, on the Costa Calida, 78km south of Alicante. It is perfectly located between two seas, the Mediteranean sea and the Mar Menor, Europe’s biggest innersea.
The beautiful regional park, Salinas y Arenales, is a wetland area which includes salt flats, dunes and beaches between the two seas. It’s one of the most important locations in San Pedro del Pinatar for its value as an area of environmental importance. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit for anyone who enjoys walking, cycling, birdwatching or just being outdoors.
The calm waters of the Mar Menor are outstanding for doing some different kinds of watersports, like jetski, flyboarding,… and much more. Families with children will appreciate the Mar Menor because of its safe and clean beaches, while the temperature of the water is a few degrees warmer than the water of the Big Sea.
On the shore you can find several restaurants and bars, where you can truly enjoy Spain with a cocktail while your kids are having an awesome time at the beach.
Lo Pagan
Lo Pagan is the part of San Pedro del Pinatar that’s located near the oceanside . It’s mostly known for its natural mud baths (los banos de lodo). Walking along the Mar Menor you will see a lot of people covered with mud. It might look a bit strange, but there’s a good reason why the people do this. The mud coming from the Mar Menor isn’t like any other mud, it has a healing power. It contains a lot of calcium, fluoride, magnesium and chlorine. These ingredients are scientifically proven to improve skin problems. The mud is also comforting for people with rheumatism. First you apply the mud to the sensitive area on the body and let it dry in the sun. Then you go into the salty water to wash it off. These mudbaths are totally free. You definetely have to try it!
Between de Mar Menor and the Mediteranean there is a long path where it’s great for a stroll or to ride a bike.
During the summer months the beaches can be packed with tourists, but once september starts, you won’t find a better place to relax.
